About Ancient Britain

We started our company because we believe people are losing their connection to the outdoors and this is having a detrimental effect on our collective well-being. Hunter Gathering has been the main human activity for over 99% of our time in Britain. Put another way; the last 5,000 years equal 1% of our time here. We haven’t adapted yet to this modern world of agriculture, stationary lifestyles and screen time. These changes are proving harmful to the health and well-being of both people and the environment. We aim to remedy this. We connect people to the landscape, the environment and their cultural heritage through activities. If people feel connected to the world around them they are more likely to be respectful and protect it for the future. In 2013, we knew we intended to do guided walks, tours, bushcraft and education. We needed an umbrella name, a generic term that covered everything. So our company was born as Wild Dog Outdoors! Naturally, as the company grew and developed over the next five years we realized history was the common thread between all the activities we provide. So in 2019 we decided to re-brand ourselves as Ancient Britain. We feel like our new name sums up what we do in two words. Re-branding brings mixed emotions. We are sad to leave behind the name that has brought us so much (career change, great colleagues, friends, adventures)… but we are excited for the changes and the potential it brings too! Our little company brings us so much joy (hard work, sweat and tears too). Mainly, we have deep gratitude for being able to do what we love, and to share our passion for Northumberland, and the environment. Thanks for being part of our journey!
